    I spend my money carefully like you, perhaps, and that's part of  why I got a Multipure. The water costs 9-11 cents a gallon beating Brita & other "cheaper filters that run 20- 30 cents a gallon. I don't like using something I don't trust ( eg., a big Box filter with expired warranty) till i know its worn out, and then trying to figure what to do next.
